This page shows you the PIN-layout of the Yamaha Tenori-On MIDI Cable.

The “MIDI” port of the Tenori-ON is not standard MIDI, since the housing of the Tenori-On probably had not enough room to put in standard MIDI connectors. Therefore, Yamaha chose to use a PS/2 connector (like a keyboard/mouse connector). With a special cable, it results in a standard MIDI implementation:

If the cable breaks (for whatever reason), you could order a new one at Yamaha. But this will probably be expensive. If you’re familiar with soldering and wiring electronic circuits, you could get the individual connectors and make your cable for less than 10 euro.

The PIN-layout shown, is from the outside point of view. So if you solder the connectors, you should mirror the images.

To make it a bit clearer, I also made a graphical version of the layout:

Goodluck!

  1. many thanks!!!

  2. Yep, this is the one. Works fine. Thank you very much, bro!
BTW, I use it not for Tenory-on, but for sw1000xg. They both need the same cable, and that was a real issue to find it till I realized that this is actually the same cable.. Thanks again!
